BTS' Speech at the United Nations | Speak Yourself (2018)

谢谢秘书长、联合国儿童基金会执行主任，以及在座的各位阁下和来自世界各地的贵宾。

Secretary-General, UNICEF executive director, and all the excellencies and distinguished guests from all across the world.

尊敬的各位来宾，以及来自世界各地的所有贵宾。

My name is Kim Nam-joon, also known as RM, the leader of the group BTS.

我叫金南俊，也就是RM，是防弹少年团（BTS）的队长。

It is an incredible honor to be invited to an occasion with such significance重要性 for today's young generation.

受邀参加这样一个对当今年轻一代意义重大的活动，我感到无比荣幸。

Last November, BTS launched the Love Myself campaign运动 with UNICEF, built on our belief that true love first begins with loving myself.

去年十一月，我们与联合国儿童基金会共同发起了“爱我”运动，其核心理念是：真正的爱始于爱自己。

We've been partnering合作 with UNICEF's End Violence program to protect children and young people all over the world from violence.

我们一直与联合国儿童基金会的“终结暴力”项目合作，致力于保护全球儿童和青少年免受暴力侵害。

And our fans have become a major part of this campaign with their action and with their enthusiasm.

我们的粉丝通过实际行动和满腔热情，成为了这场运动的重要组成部分。

We truly have the best fans in the world.

And I'd like to begin by talking about myself.

我想先从介绍我自己开始。

I was born in Ilsan, a city near Seoul, South Korea.

我出生在韩国首尔附近的一个城市——一山。

It is a really beautiful place with a lake, hills, and even an annual flower festival.

那里风景优美，有湖泊、山丘，甚至每年还会举办花卉节。

I spent a very happy childhood there, and I was just an ordinary boy.

我在那里度过了非常快乐的童年，那时我只是个普通男孩。

I used to look up at the night sky and wonder, and I used to dream the dreams of a boy.

我曾仰望夜空，充满好奇，也曾怀揣着少年的梦想。

I used to imagine that I was a superhero who could save the world.

我曾幻想自己是个能拯救世界的超级英雄。

In an intro to one of our early albums, there's a line that says, "My heart stopped when I was maybe nine or ten."

在我们早期的一张专辑简介中，有这样一句话：“我的心在九岁或十岁时停止了跳动。”

Looking back, I think that's when I began to worry about what other people thought of me and started seeing myself through透过 their eyes.

回首往事，我认为那时我开始担心别人对我的看法，并试着透过他们的眼睛看自己。

I stopped looking up at the night skies, the stars.

我不再仰望星空了。

I stopped daydreaming.

我也不再做白日梦了。

Instead, I just tried to jam myself into the molds模式 that other people made.

相反，我只努力把自己塞进别人设定的模具里。

Soon, I began to shut out my own voice and started to listen to the voices of others.

很快，我开始封闭自己的声音，转而倾听他人的声音。

No one called out my name, and neither did I.

没人呼唤我的名字，我也没有呼唤别人的名字。

My heart stopped, and my eyes closed shut.

我的心停止了跳动，双眼紧闭。

So, like this, I, we, all lost our names.

所以，就像这样，我，我们，都失去了名字。

We became like ghosts.

我们变得像幽灵一样。

But I had one sensory感官的, and that was music.

但我保留了一种感官，那就是音乐。

There was a small voice inside of me that said, "Wake up, man, and listen to yourself."

我内心深处有个微弱的声音在说：‘醒醒吧，伙计，听听你自己的心声。’

But it took me a long time to hear music calling my real name.

Even after making the decision to join BTS, there were a lot of hurdles障碍.

即使决定加入防弹少年团后，我们仍面临许多障碍。

Some people might not believe, but most people thought we were hopeless.

也许有人不信，但大多数人认为我们没有希望了。

And sometimes I just wanted to quit.

有时候我真的想放弃。
