Next guest is a massively successful K-pop music star with a new solo album.
It's our first solo album.
It's called Alter Ego, and you can see you're playing a very charming…
…hotel worker named Moo on The White Lotus.
Watch that Sundays on HBO and Max.
From BLACKPINK, please welcome Lisa.
It's very good to see you and to meet you.
Really, I met you over Zoom one time during you were on the show, and I saw you on the Oscars too.
You did a fantastic job singing James Bond theme song 'Live and Let Die'.
You did right 'Live and Let Die', and I will tell you something:
we have something in common besides both being K-pop superstars—you and I.
Both were suspended from the ceiling at the Oscars.
When I host—one of the times I host the Oscars—they put me up in the thing, and then they dropped me down.
It was very uncomfortable, I have to say.
So I was thinking about you when I saw this on Sunday—there you were—and it seemed
so elegant and graceful, but it's kind of scary, right?
It was really scary, yeah.
Yeah, I was like, 'Um, I'm not comfortable doing this,' and they don't care.
They say, 'That's too bad—you're doing it.'
No, but they really asked me, 'Do you really want to do it?
Are you okay?
Do you feel good?'
I'm like, 'Yeah,' right—but you were lying, see.
I was complaining the whole time.
How was your experience?
It was unpleasant because they had me in a harness, and then you know—everything—you know—gravity squishes everything down.
You know, yeah—you can't really feel your legs and everything.
That's not those—that's not those were the least of my problems.
How long were you up there?
Um, I think more than two or three minutes.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
How about I was up there for quite a bit longer?
Yeah, I'm sorry for that.
It's okay—I'm not here to complain.
But I am here first of all—you're great on The White Lotus as well.
That is a great role for you, and you're very charming in this thing.
A lot of people seem to think that because you're
so sweet on the show, you are going to turn out to be the killer.
Are you the killer?
Am I supposed to tell you?
You shouldn't legally, but I would appreciate if you did.
It would be funny if you did.
I mean, she's a sweet girl—yeah, look, she's a really sweet girl.
There's no way she's the killer.
I'm going to be so mad if she's the killer, honestly—because she's
so sweet—and it would just be deceptive if she's the killer.
And the guy—the other guy—she's got, he's got the crush on her,
and you're like kind of heartbroken for him because she's kind of thinks he's nice—but maybe he's not.
Are you—does she interested in him?
Your character, Moo?
I think she wasn't sure.
She's not sure.
She was just like, you know, testing the water—it's like, 'Let's go on a date and let's see how it happens.'
Her name is Moo, yeah—which, what does that mean in Thai?
'Moo' means pearl—pearl.
Okay, 'cuz in English 'moo' is not a compliment—a 'mook' is like a little, like a dumb little,
like kind of th—like a 'moo', you know—oh, it's like one of the guys on the corner is a mook.
Oh, no—oh, yeah.
They didn't tell you this, huh?
No—nobody mentioned it.
Well, it's a Thai name, so yeah, right.
You don't have to worry about that in Thailand, but here it's a problem.
Okay, so don't—so don't call me 'moo' here.
Don't call you 'moo'.
And um, then this is...
Uh, boy—it's interesting to me how different you look in this album cover for your solo album.
It's um a concept album, and that means what exactly?
A concept album?
Um, so it starts from um—I came to LA
and tried a different type of music for this album—and it turns out that I love every single one of them.
So that's why I call this album 'Alter Ego', and I have five different characters—five characters—and you perform as each individual character.
Yeah.
What are the characters?
Uh, okay...
There's Roxy, Kiki, Sunny, Speedi, and the last main girl—she's Vixi.
Which one is the most like you?
Mmm...
I think Vixi.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Oh, I thought you were more of a Speedi.
Oh, sometimes when I drive—when I drive!
Yeah.
Oh, is it 'Speedi' like driving fast?
Speedi—yes, she loves cars, and yeah, she loves to...
She loves to drive fast.
And you came up with this idea—um, my team, your team—came up with the idea as well.
Did they have—did it take them a...
Long time to explain what the plan was?
Like, 'You're going to be five different characters!'
Like—'Huh?'
But I thought I was doing a solo album.
'Like—no, there are five of you.'
No, it's just like a quick conversation—it's like 10 to 20 minutes—like, 'What do you think about the five-character idea?'
And I was like, 'I love it!'
I think it's—it's me.
Well, good!
Well, that's fortunate.
You are—I know that on 'The White Lotus', you guys all live at that hotel when you're shooting the show, right?
And then you hang out with the other actors.
Yes—we all have like a meal together all the time—if we—if we have um—um, what you say...
The right timing—yeah.
If you have enough time to do it—yeah.
Oh, yeah, 'cuz sometimes some of you are working, and yeah, some of them are working—you get together.
And you guys sing karaoke—yes—but not every single night.
No, no, no, no—that would be more of a Speedi kind of thing to do.
But when you're singing karaoke...
Are there people who are not involved with the production—like, do people lose their minds when they see you there singing karaoke?
They don't care.
They don't care—yeah.
I'm just like sitting in the corner of the room and just—I'm just being like cheering them, hyping them up.
just like sitting in the corner of the room
and just I'm just being like cheering them hyping them up you
oh you don't sing I don't oh never I'm more like A dancer.
I love to dance.
You're one of those people who gets up on the stage and kind of in the background—and doesn't really—yeah.
I feel weird for me...
To like grab the mic and sing.
Well, you're a singer—karaoke?
Yeah—no, I understand that.
Yeah, there's a lot of pressure, right?
Yeah.
Who's the best karaoke singer in the cast?
Natasha.
Oh, Natasha—she was here last week.
Oh, she is?
Huh—yeah.
Oh, she's so good!
What does she do?
What songs?
What kind of music?
So many—so many um songs that she did—but I don't remember—but everything was one personality—or does she do five?
Um, I think she did like three—three's enough—you know—for most people.
Well, congratulations on the show and on your album.
This is the album—it's called 'Alter Ego', debut solo album, Lisa.
